Week of December 12

What we will be working on
Reading:  This is the last week students will study nonfiction text features.  We will also be work on close readings.  This is where students find information in the text.
Writing:  Students will work on a persuasive writing assignment over the next 2 weeks.  They are persuading Santa that they are a good helper!
Math:   We have started chapter 6.  This chapter will cover the understanding of division.  There will be a quiz mid week.
Social Studies:  Students will study holiday customs from around the world as well as read about current events in the Scholastic News Articles.

Science: We are studying trees in the month of December.

Homework This Week
Students received last Friday:  Spelling Words and  Fluency
Daily: Minute Math, Read 20 min.  Monday:  Vocabulary

Week of December 3

What we will be working on …
Reading:  The next 2 weeks students will study nonfiction text features.  There are 10 features we will study. 
Writing:  Students will continue to study and work on opinion writing for the month of December.
Math:   We will begin chapter 6.  This chapter will cover the understanding of division.
Social Studies:  Students will study holiday customs from around the world as well as read about current events in the Scholastic News Articles.

Science: We will begin studying trees in the month of December.

Week of November 28

What we will be working on …

Reading:  This week students will focus on the elements of plot in a fictional text.  Students will learn about rising action, climax, falling action, and solution, as well as the concept of problem and resolution.
Writing:  Students will continue to study and work on opinion writing for the month of December.
Math:   Will continue with Ch. 4, Multiplication.  Students will begin working on mastering multiplication facts.  Chapter 4 Math test will be on Thursday this week.
Social Studies:  Students will begin learning about the state of Alaska as well as read about current events in the Scholastic News Articles.
Science: We will begin studying trees in the month of December.


Important Dates:

December 1st:  Choir singing at the tree lighting  4:30 at Commissary
December 20th:  School Spelling Bee @ 2:00

Week of November 21st

Dear Families,
Wednesday at 2:00 we are having a Thanksgiving Feast.  Students have been working on their persuasive papers and students will have an opportunity to read them aloud to you.  Below is a sign up list for some foods we will need.  Please log on and sign up for an item that you would be able to provide.  I will also need volunteers to help serve.

Homework
NO Spelling Homework this week!  I will pass out spelling homework on Wednesday, November 24th for the following week. 

This week students have fluency and Minute Math.  I will pick up the fluency Monday after Thanksgiving.



Ms. Miller's last full day is November 29th.  I would like to surprise her with some cards from the students.  Any students that would like to make her a card can bring it in to me and I will put together a package.  Thank you!

Week of November 13th

What we will be working on …
Reading:  Ms. Miller will continue leading the reading lesson this week.  The focus will be on comprehension and retelling the events in a story.
Writing:  Students have been working on their turkey persuasive paragraphs.  We are planning to share with parents on November 23.
Math:   Will continue with Ch. 4, Multiplication.  Students will begin working on mastering multiplication facts.
Social Studies:  Students began learning about how a person can become the President of the United States, along with other information about our government and the Presidential candidates.  This will be our focus for the rest of November.
Science: We will be finishing our clouds project this month and start studying the parts of a tree.
