Week of October 31st

What we will be working on

Reading Ms. Miller will be leading the reading lesson this week.  The focus will be on comprehension and retelling the events in a story.

Writing:  For the month of November student will begin working on informative/opinion writing and how to write a paragraph.

Math:   This week students will finish Ch. 3.  The test is scheduled for Wednesday.  It will be on the understanding of multiplication.

Social Studies:  Students began learning about how a person can become the President of the United States, along with other information about our government and the Presidential candidates.  This will be our focus for the rest of October and early November.

Homework This Week
 
Thursday:  Fluency and Spelling Words were sent home for the week.
Daily:  Minute Math and read 20 minutes
NO Vocabulary this week

What we will be working on …
Reading: We are going to begin a book study that will tie in everything that we have been working on in reading.  We will be reading Sarah Plain and Tall.

Math:   We have started multiplication in Math.  This will will be our focus for the next 2 weeks.

Science:  Our focus will be on clouds for the rest of October.

Week of October 10

What we will be working on …
Reading: This week students will focus on the setting of a fictional text.  Students will determine the when, where, and the environment in which the story takes place.  They will explain how the setting contributes to the story and compare and contrast the settings of different texts.
Math:   Students will be finishing with clocks this week and begin the multiplication unit. 
Science:  This week our focus will be on clouds.  Students will begin their cloud projects
Social Studies:  Students will read their scholastic news articles this week.

Week of October 3

What we will be working on …
Reading: Students spend the next 3 weeks focusing on the elements of fiction.  This week students will work on characterization. 
Math:   Student have started working on telling time to the minute, and calculating elapsed time.
Science:  This week we will be studying clouds and monitoring the weather. 
Social Studies:  Students finished their continents project.  Next we begin looking at the scholastic news article.
