Week of September 26th

What we will be working on …
Reading: Students will start the week by making predictions. They will also learn to summarize fiction and nonfiction text, as well as synthesizing. The final day will be an overview lesson on metacognition.
Math:   Students will have their chapter test on Wed.  We will focus on word problems this week.
Science:  This week we will be studying clouds and monitoring the weather. 
Social Studies:  Student will continue studying the continents and oceans.  We will work on our globe projects.

Week of September 19

What we will be working on …
Reading:  This week students will continue learning about types of questions and will learn about “the author and me” questions. These questions require students to combine what they already know with what they’ve read in the text. Therefore, the primary focus of this week will be inferencing and drawing conclusions.
Math:  We will be finishing chapter 1 this week review multi-digit subtraction.  Students will have their first math test next week.
Science:  We have started working with thermometers and will begin monitoring the weather. 
Social Studies:  Student will continue studying the continents and oceans.

Week of September 12

What we will be working on …

Reading:  This week students will learn all about types of questions. The week will begin with a lesson on asking questions before, during, and after reading. Then, students will begin learning about QAR (Question- Answer Relationship). Students will focus on how to find and answer explicit questions using complete sentences.
Math:  Finish reviewing addition and subtraction. 
Science:  Study the different types of clouds.

Social Studies:  Continue studying the continents and oceans.

Vocabulary for this week is...

What we will be working on
Reading:  Comprehension strategies will focus primarily on visualizing and using illustrations to gain meaning from the text.  These are the building blocks for developing stronger comprehension strategies throughout the year.

Math:  This week students will be working on rounding and estimating numbers. 

Science: We will continue to work on the scientific method and set up our science journals.

Social Studies:  Student will begin studying the continents and oceans.

Homework
Students should read 20 min. each night; Fluency begins this week; Math fact sheets will also be sent home
